James is a fully qualified PGA professional and has worked in the golf industry for over 20 years. After finishing his traineeship at Southern Golf Club in the early 2000s, James then went onto work at the Box Hill Golf Club as Assistant Director of Golf. Wanting to further his management skills, James took up the position of Manager at Gardiners Run Golf Course in Lilydale, where he won the 2018 Legends Pro Am of the year award and in 2019 he won the Victorian PGA Manager of the Year Award. James has a clear passion for everything golf and has returned to Box Hill Golf Club in a dual role as Director of Golf / Assistant General Manager. James is dedicated to providing great customer service and a superior experience for members and guests. Please feel free to contact James at any time.
James first picked up a club at the age of 7 and by 8 was hooked. Within another year he was a member of his local club and playing for his county from 12 through to 18 when he went off to university. He was a member of the Southampton University team that made the national semi-finals in 1997.
James worked in finance for a number of years before deciding to train as a British PGA golf coach. As an assistant, he trained under some of the best coaches in the United Kingdom at Worplesdon Golf Club, learning from differing styles and approaches to coaching. From here he moved to Mount Pleasant Golf Club and was soon appointed as Head Professional after completing the PGA qualification where he remained until moving to Australia.
James’ focus is on coaching, whether with the juniors, ladies or men, and enjoys the diversity of challenges that each pupil brings to him. His coaching ethos is to be honest, realistic and keeping it simple. He tries to ensure that each player goes away from each lesson understanding what they need to do to improve, as well as why. With a greater understanding of his clients, he aims to make sure that all players enjoy the game of golf as much as possible. He is also a qualified club-fitter and believes that having the correct equipment is essential to making the most of your game.
Golf has been part of Glen’s life since his grandfather cut a club down for him when he was 3 years old. Growing up in nearby Vermont South, he played most of his junior golf at Ringwood Golf Club, winning the Club Championship a record 6 times. Glen has been in the golf industry most of his adult life, including 8 years at The Metropolitan Golf Club and a short stint at The Southern Golf Club.
Glen was voted by his peers as a Trainee Captain in 2020 and completed his PGA Qualification with distinctions in Coaching, Small Business and Management in the same year at Box Hill. He has a passion for coaching and gets a big kick out of making meaningful changes to a member’s golf game. Glen also holds advanced ACE Status in Coaching through the PGA of Australia.
John (and his big smile) joins the Box Hill Golf Shop team in 2022 to mark his fourth year in golf retail.
Having completed a Bachelor of Media and Communication (Sports Journalism), John wasted no time combining his passions for sports management and marketing with his love for golf. But only after deciding that watching golf every minute of the day wasn’t exactly an option…
Raised on the greens of the Macedon Ranges, John’s particular interest in golf management led him to the Gisborne Golf Club board in 2020. Here, he quickly became the go-to for organising member communications and posting entertaining social media for the club. John then turned his attention to golf operations and was elected as the club’s Vice Captain in 2021.
As the Golf Shop Manager at Box Hill, John stays busy maintaining the club’s high-quality comps and keeping members up to date with the latest board events. When he’s not running day-to-day operations, you can find him restocking all your favourite golf apparel, shoes, and accessories in the shop. You can even annoy him with your MiScore app troubles!
