Penfold Motors Box Hill Pro-Am Wins Pro-Am Of The Year 2009/2010
Box Hill Golf Club wins Pro-Am of the year, again
Box Hill Golf Club's annual Pro-Am tournament has been voted the State's best for the second year in a row by professional golfers.
The back-to-back effort cements the Club's two-day event as a must for players on the Australian professional circuit.
After winning the title for the first time in 2008/2009, the Club was vying for the 2009/2010 title with Portsea and Keysborough at the PGA (southern division) awards on Monday night (May 3).
Club general manager Graham Dale and the captain, Vince O'Brien, accepted the award.
They paid tribute to the principal organisers, Anthony Pearce and John Trionfi, the club staff including Course Superintendent Mark Jennings and Director of Golf Heath Streat, and the sponsors led by Penfold Motors, for their efforts and continued support.
The 2009 Pro-Am last November saw Eastwood Golf Club stage a lead-up event in conjunction with the Box Hill tournament.
Eastwood will again stage a lead-up event the day before Box Hill's tournament this year. Yering Meadows (Croydon) Golf Club will also stage a lead-up event, creating good prize money for four successive days of golf in November.
Winner of the 2009 Penfold Motors Box Hill Pro-Am was Leigh Deagan, who this week (May3rd) won the PNG open to gain exemption into the Asia Pacific Championship on the Japanese Tour.
The winner in 2008 was Cameron Percy who now plays on the USPGA tour after a sucessful 2009 in the secodary Nationwide Tour in the US.
Box Hill held its first Pro-Am in 2006.
